Liz James
Liz James works in a free, expressive style to capture the atmosphere of a place and time rather than geographical detail. Primarily using watercolour and acrylic she often incorporates other materials and mediums using charcoal, pastel, pencil, and sand to enhance her paintings.
The stunning Norfolk landscape is the main inspiration for her artistic practice, in particular the beautiful coast around Cromer where she lives and the wide-open skies. She is fascinated by the way the weather and changing seasons mark the passage of time and affect the mood of the sea, sky, and landscape.

Ros Copping
Ros Copping’s work experiments in capturing memorable episodes of the interplay between people, creatures and place, using carved lino that imitates expressive brush work. Sometimes using reduction printing, mono printing and hand colouring and usually printed by hand to capture spontaneous marks and textures. Normally prints then lead onto larger paintings.
By being outside Ros records what is seen on the North Norfolk Coast and uses structured compositions to create energy with limited brush marks including only necessary parts of the story. Often there are memorable moments along-side intended tension. Quality of line is used to describe and set a scene for a suggested narrative. The titles give a context of time and place if needed.

JOINT EXHIBITION AT THE NEW CROMER ARTSPACE
LOOKING NORTH Liz James and Ros Copping
Cromer Artspace on the Prom is a project to create an artspace in an ‘art deco’ building on the west promenade in Cromer. This is a real opportunity to bring an unused heritage building into community use, creating a unique destination for North Norfolk. This is an iconic building with a superb location which will attract a high calibre of national and international artists, of interest throughout the region.
The building has been empty since the tidal surge at the end of 2013 so needs some love and attention to enable us to use it all year round, and to improve the access which currently involves a set of steep steps. While the plans for the major works are developed, put through the planning process, and the necessary funds for the work raised we have opened the gallery in it’s rustic state. It’s still an amazing space in an amazing location.
Please consider supporting the project by donating via our just giving campaign.
To find Artspace on the Prom, on the promenade in Cromer walk to the far west end (that’s left at the bottom of any slope or steps). The nearest car park is the Runton Road carpark. Disabled parking is at the bottom of the Melbourne slope.

About Norfolk Wildlife Trust
Norfolk Wildlife Trust is the oldest Wildlife Trust in the country. The purchase of 400 acres of marsh at Cley on the north Norfolk coast in 1926 to be held ‘in perpetuity as a bird breeding sanctuary’ provided a blueprint for nature conservation which has now been replicated across the UK.

FIRST EXHIBITION OF 2022!

Lillias August RI, John Crossley RWS and Richard Sorrell PPRWS, NEAC for the next Society of East Anglian Watercolourists 'Awash' exhibition at the Handa Gallery, Wells Maltings.
The exhibition opens on the 3rd of February and runs until the 27th of February.
I hope you will be able to drop in to see the wide range of watercolour styles used by the different artists taking part.
Exploring the world of Digital Media
Something completely different for me… my first venture into the digital world of NFT’s.
Sunday Sunrise is a fusion of watercolour painting and source photograph digitally altered to enhance the colours.
I was interested to see how a more traditional artwork form would combine with digital media to create a new unique image. Very surprised to see how close my painting was to the photograph which was completely unintentional.
What is an NFT?
NFT stands for Non-Fungible tokens, these are a form of unique digital asset that exist on the
blockchain. Anything can be minted into an NFT – artwork, digital films, games.
Artwork available on rarible.com
